Notes from the Moore Guitars Staff

For most guitarists, a 12 string model guitar isn't "the only horse in the barn" - it is an additional "voice" or "tool" that we use for specific songs or for a specific "tonal accent".  For us older folks, songs from the Byrds, Crosby, Still, Nash, Young, and that elusive group called The Beatles, wouldn't be the same without a 12 string voice.  Can you imagine the opening of Zeppelin's Tangerine, or "Over The Hills and Far Away" without that 12 string intro?

That being said, since for the most part, 12 string guitars are "Additional purchases", it's a great idea to search out some of the best values available.  What's important in a 12 string - well the same things that are important in every guitar, but since you are having to "wrestle" twice the amount of strings so playability, balance of tone, and playing "in-tune" all the way up and down the neck are crucial.  For these reasons, players will enjoy and appreciate the US Made Taylor 454ce.

This 12-string acoustic-electric guitar not only looks the part, but it checks all the boxes we discussed above.  It's built with top-tier materials and electronics to deliver exceptional tone - whether you are playing in the studio, in your living room, or on stage. The body is constructed using Indian rosewood back and sides as it's "tonewood" and a Sitka spruce top for its projection , overall volume, and tonal balance — a time-tested pairing yielding just the right amount of bass and clear transparent high end. The body is married to a bolt-on mahogany neck that features the standard Taylor profile that players have fallen in love with for years!  When you decide to plug in to play onstage, the ES2 electronics deliver a lifelike transparent sound - remember - the goal is to get your acoustic guitar to sound amplified, the way it sounds without an amp!  The ES2 delivers THAT tone.

Notes from Taylor Guitars

Fans of the 12-string sound and the overtone-rich voice of Indian rosewood are sure to be enticed by the 454ce, which boasts a gleaming gloss-finish body to complement its shimmering tone. This versatile Grand Auditorium features back and sides of Indian rosewood paired with a Sitka spruce top, delivering warm lows, clear trebles and a blooming overtone character. Inside, our V-Class bracing elevates the response with louder volume and longer sustain while improving pitch accuracy all the way up the neck. This acoustic-electric is appointed for the spotlight, featuring Finial inlays in the genuine ebony fretboard, a faux-tortoiseshell pickguard, crisp white binding and an agoya shell rosette. It includes ES2 electronics for faithful, clear plugged-in sound and ships with a deluxe hardshell case.
